Surgical Wellness AT LIPEDEMA Centers of Excellence
Although Lipedema has no known cure, there are effective procedures that can significantly enhance your quality of life. At the Lipedema Centers of Excellence, we create personalized treatment plans tailored to your unique needs. Our goal is to restore balance, improve mobility, and help you feel more confident in your body.
There are different types of liposuction and which one is used depends on the needs and goals of the individual patient. Most patients receive some form of anesthetic before liposuction, so the procedure is pain-free. Our surgeon will make small incisions and use a suction device to remove the excess fiber deposits; this will help alleviate pain, improve mobility, and potentially slow the progression of the condition.
Brachioplasty, commonly known as an arm lift, is performed to remove excess skin and fibrous tissue from the upper arms. This can help relieve symptoms such as chafing, skin irritation, and limited mobility that may result from sagging tissue. In patients with Lipedema, brachioplasty may also be used to address dense, fibrotic fat deposits that do not respond to conservative treatments. The procedure aims to improve both comfort and contour the arm as part of a broader treatment plan.
Thigh lift surgery addresses excess skin, soft tissue laxity, and, in some cases, fibrotic fat accumulation along the inner or outer thighs. In patients with Lipedema, this procedure may be considered when managing symptoms such as skin breakdown, friction wounds, or difficulty with walking. By removing redundant tissue and reshaping the thighs, a thigh lift can contribute to improved hygiene, ease of movement, and better proportional balance between the lower and upper body
Also known as a tummy tuck, this procedure will be done under general anesthesia and can take up to several hours, depending on the extent of the procedure. While a mini tummy tuck can take just 90 minutes, an extended abdominoplasty can take up to five hours to complete.
To begin, the surgeon will create the incisions. Although some of the cuts can be quite extensive, our skilled surgeon will carefully place them to ensure that they are easily hidden with clothing and swimwear once you have healed. Through those openings, the surgeon will tighten lax muscles, remove excess skin, and smooth stretch marks. He may also perform liposuction to remove unwanted deposits of fat. Once your stomach has been successfully shaped and contoured, the surgeon will close the incision with sutures and place a surgical drain to prevent fluids from accumulating in the area.
